TO ATTRACT TOURISTS

SCHEME IN BRITAIN (Australian Press Association.) (Rec. December 14, 5.5 p.m.) London, December 13. The Government is sponsoring a scheme to form a large new association to advertise throughout the world and attract visitors to Britan. Captain Hacking states that the scheme is being overwhelmingly supported. The aim is an association with an income of £30,000 a year for five years. France last year had 1,800,000 visitors who spent at least 75 to 100 millions sterling in tlie country. Britain only received 412,000 tourists. The inaugural meeting was held in the Mansion House on December 20,. The “Daily Express,” in an editorial, said: “The Government should supply the cost of the scheme. Overtaxed industries cannot shoulder the expense of meeting State subsidised propaganda that draws a thousand Americans to France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and anywhere except Britain.”
