SYDNEY FERRY FARES
OUTCRY AGAINST INCREASE Sydney, December 12. An outcry by ferry travellers against increased fares across the harbour induced the Government to appoint a Royal Commission, whose report, tabled in Parliament to-day, set out that the Sydney Ferries Company, Ltd., had been over-capitalised, and reserves had accumulated in excess of the minimum requirements. With this excess bonus shares had been provided, upon which dividends of £83,703 were continuously payable. The company’s methods were therefore prejudicial to ferry users, while certain paying services were being made to pay for nonprofitable services.
