NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL MEETING CHAMPIONSHIPS AT BELMONT A meeting of the New Zealand Golf Council was held on Monday, when there were present: Mr. W. E. A. Gill (chairman), Sir Alexander Roberts (vicechairman), Messrs. M. J. Crombie, L. O. H. Tripp, A. D. S. Duncan, and G. O. Sutton (secretary). An apology was received from Mr. W. A. Kiely, who was out of Wellington. An application was received from the Manawatu Golf Club for the 1929 open and amateur championships. It had previously been decided to have the Belmont course at Wanganui inspected with a view to holding the tournament there, and after discussion it was decided to advise the Manawatu Golf Club that subject to the Wanganui course being satisfactory, the 1929 championships will be played there. As regards the inspection of Wanganui, it was considered that the best time to inspect the course would probably be the autumn. The council’s present intention is to have it inspected early in March. The Professionals’ Association forwarded a resolution passed at their annual general meeting in Dunedin, conveying suggestions to the council that in the professionals’ foursome championship the professionals present at the tournament be divided into two classes and partners drawn for. It was agreed to comply with the wishes of the professionals in this respect. Correspondence was received from the Wanganui, Wellington, and Napier Golf Clubs with regard to the professionals’ autumn tournament, 1929, while a telegram was received from the Napier Golf Club stating that they were definitely agreeable to homing cue .. in February. The secretary reported that letters had been written to the Press Association and to many of the leading newspapers in New Zealand with regard to the very scant news which the Press Association arranges to get in connection with important golfing events overseas and in other parts of New Zealand. The forthcoming tournament dates have been reported to the association: — Invercargill, December 26, 27, and 28; Christchurch, December 26, 27, and 29; Miramar, January 1,2, and 3, 1929; New Plymouth, March 30 and April 1.

QUEENSLAND CHAMPIONSHIP. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Brisbane, December 4. The Golf Association championship, of thirty-six holes, was won by Stan Francis, who downed R. H. Cumming, 2 and 1, in a keenly-fought match. Elsewhere in this issue, the Wanganui Club advertises for a golf professional.
