BIG BILLIARDS
WONDERFUL RECORD BY LINDRUM
SERIOUS ILLNESS OF McCONACHY
Walter Lindrum and Clark McConachy have been singularly unfortunate in their South Island tour, as the match in Christchurch was abandoned owing to McConachy being taken ill. Epon his recovery they went on to Dunedin to. fulfil the engagement there, but after a week McConachy was taken very seriously ill and the match had to be abandoned. He is now progressing towards recovery.
Lindrum has been playing amazing billiards ih nis tour of New Zealand, and in the week of play in Dunedin made four breaks of over 100(1 each, making a total of seven four figure breaks in the course of his visit. They were 1475, 1461, 1187, 1149, 1091, 1131, 1097. these including a new world's record. Such a list comes close to creating a world’s record for any of the big men in the game to-day, few, if any, having such a record for the whole of their lives. Of the breaks made one was comprised of pot cannons, another top of the table play and nursery cannons, and a third hy all-round billiards. In spite of such wonderful billiards by two of the leading exponents in the professional world, the attendances of the public have been very poor. Incidentally. Lindrum’s phenomenal billiards has further, indicated that in the secondary industries and particularly in the manufacture of billiards tables New Zealand sometimes leads, or at least equals the world's best, for such play is only possible where the finest possible material and workmanship have been introduced into the manufacture. It is more than likely that the table used in Wellington will go to Australia with Lindrum when he returns.
