OBITUARY
LIEUTENANT-COLONEL ANDREWS

Lieut.-Colonel C. E. Andrews, 0.8. E., Assistant Adjutant and QuartermasterGeneral, Northern Command, was found dead at his home at Remuera, this morning. He had not been on duty since Friday. . His wife is absent in the South Island. • ' The late Colonel Andrews was 53 years of age. In his early manhood he joined the old Volunteer Force, serving in the ranks of the Wellington Naval Artillery Volunteers for. five years, and then for two years in the Cromwell Rifles, Otago, when he received a commission'in No. 1 Company, New Zealand Engineer Volunteers, rising ultimately to the rank of captain. On the inception of the new defence schyne-in 1911 he joined the New Zealand Staff Corps as a-lieutenant, and during the Great War served in France, Belgium, Egypt, and Gallipoli. , rising to the rank of major, and second-in-com-mand of the Otago Regiment, and being mentioned in dispatches.- He received the 0.8. E. for his services. On his return to New Zealand he was promoted to lieu.colonel, and served for two years as Assistant Adjutant-General at Defence.Headquarters. When the retrenchment scheme was introduced he was regraded .major, and posted to command No. 2 Regimental District, with headquarters at Paeroa. He was promoted to lieut.-colonel and As-sistant-Adjutant and QuartermasterGeneral, Northern Command, in December of last year. .
