CANADIAN LUMBER

MARKET PROSPECTS IN AUSTRALIA (Australian Press Association.) Vancouver, November 26. Referring to the request of lumbermen for a shipping subsidy to Australia and lumber preference, the “Daily Province,” a Conservative journal, says the Australian treaty is of high value to Canada. British Columbia knows that if no other province does Ontario should know it too. In October, Australia bought 1800 Canadian automobiles, and was, in fact, Canada’s best customer in this line of goods, but constant complaints that Australia receives less advantages than Canada are made. Figures show the trade between the two countries is very unevenly balanced. While trade is so lopsided, whilst resentment against the application of the dumping duty remains, it will be difficult for Canada to bring Australia to see the advantage of giving preference to Canadian lumber.

If Canada wants to sell more to her sister Dominion she will have to make an effort to buy more than that Dominion produces.
