EAST VOGELTOWN AFFAIRS
CITY COUNCIL STRONGLY CRITICISED.
The quarterly general meeting of the East Vogeltown Progressive Association was held this week, Mr. S. B. Watson presiding. The City Council’s apparent delay in pushing ahead with the improvement of Upper Liardet Street was strongly and adversely criticised. It was stated that at least one resident present was contemplating the taking of legal action for damages done to his property by uncontrolled street storm water. The greatest indignation was expressed at the condition of the footpath in Hutchison Road. The kerbing and channelling had been laid down for some time, but, it was alleged, the provisions of the Wellington City and Exhibition Grounds Act, 1927. had not yet been complied with in respect of permanently surfacing the path which, in its present state, was unusable in wet weather, and rough and stony at the best of times. The road itself, it was further stated, had been left in an unfinished condition, with dangerously overhanging banks, which were always slipping in wet weather. The question of the installation of a slot telephone was again raised, and it was decided to make personal representation to the Secretary to the Post Office, and also, if possible, to form a deputation to the next council meeting, to ventilate the complaints of the residents.
