The bitterness assoei: ted with political of juist elections has been notably absent on the. present occasion (remarks the Auckland “Herald”). One of the happiest groups on the lawn at the Mater Misericordiae Hospital prior to a function there yesterday coinpri ed a newly-elected member’ of Parliament and the Labour candidate and late member whom he had defeated. N far away was a third candidate in the same contest. There are several hundred absentee votes, which may possibly reverse the tentatl -• verdict, still to be counted in that electorate. Perhaps Mr. Donald and Mr. Lee were speculating on the distribution of those all-important ballot papers. But from a distance one would judge that politics had for the time been forgotten.
