HURLEY DELAYED

IN FLIGHT TO ENGLAND EGYPTIAN REGULATIONS NOT FULFILLED AUTHORITIES WAIVE CONDITIONS (United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.) Cairo, November 23. Captain Hurley unexpectedly arrived at the Heliopolis aerodrome last night, and is awaiting the permission of the Egyptian Government to fly on to London by the customary route. The weather conditions have induced Hurley to alter his plan to fly via Constantinople. (United Service.) (Rec. November 25, 11.5 p.m.) London, November 24. Captain Hurley, owing to ignorance of the regulations specifying the necessity for civilian aircraft to give the Egyptian Government fifteen days’ notice prior to arrival, was delayed at Cairo. However, the authorities kindly waived the conditions, and the ’plane left for Solium. Heading out in the mist the aviators gained fleeting glimpses of the Nile delta, with a bewildering tangle of silvery waterways. They turned west along the dividing line with the blue Mediterranean on the starboard and the golden sands of the Libyian desert stretching to the horizon on the port. At 1 p.m. they reached Solium, a remarkable outpost on the frontier of Egyptian and Italian territory. The aerodrome is on top of a cliff 900 feet above the sea. There is a treacherous landing surrounded by rocky country, where many aeroplanes have come to grief. The indefatigable Owens is working on the engine, giving it a thorough tune up before crossing the Mediterranean. The airmen leave at daybreak on Sunday for Athens. AEROPLANES FOR CANADA SEVENTY TO BE PURCHASED (Australian Press Association.) Ottawa, November 23. Seventy aeroplanes, the majority of the light type, carrying two persons, costing 400,000 dollars, are to be purchased shortly, the Department of National Defence announced on Friday. The machines are to be used by the Air Force and in civil.and Government operations. FOUR MEN KILLED IN CRASH (United Service.) (Rec. November 25, 5.5 p.m.) New York, November 23. < Four men were killed and three seriously injured at Spokane, Washington State, when a Ford tri-motored ’plane crashed. .
