BOXING

TO-NIGHT’S TOURNAMENT. Nothing appears wanting to ensure the success of to-night’s boxing tournament at the Town Hall. From the demand tor seats at the box office it may be interred that there will be an excellent attendance and the fare to be provided should please followers of the sport. Trowern, who has graduated Into the welter-weight class, was always a favourite performer in V ellington and his re-appearance will he welcomed. He has undertaken to make lOst. 31b. to induce the Australian to tryconclusions with him. Fairhall has met him previously and secured the decision after a close hard-hitting contest, and it their meeting to-night produces a contest up to the standard seen on that occasion, bo th contestants will be an attraction for future contests. There will be (he usual amateur preliminaries and some close, interesting contests should be seen among those engaged. The box plan will close this afternoon. . The association announces a turther attraction on December 10. when Billy McAlister, the bantam champion of Australia, will make his first appearance in New Zealand. Followers of the sP°vt throughout the Dominion have been looking forward to seeing the champion in action and some regret was expressed when Leckle announced that his hand would have to be rested. Taylor, the late amateur bantam champion, has been Installed In Leckie’s place, and despite the tormhlable record of the visitor, his form against Green nt Napier recently is suniclent to justify the expectation that the Aucklander will give a trootl account ot himself. Many thought that Green was fortunate to get the decision over Taylor, and the fact that Green has defeated McAlister, suggests that Taylor may go a long way in the sport.
