The Canadian National Steamships advise that the steamer Trewidder is fixed to leave Montreal on November 28 with general cargo to discharge at Auckland, Wellington and Australian ports. The vessel Is due at Auckland on January 15. PASSENGERS FOR LONDON. The C. and D. RUAPEHU LEAVES PANAMA. Cabled news has been received by the New Zealand Shipping Company that their liner Ruapehu left Panama on Monday lor New Zealand ports, en route from London and Southampton. The vessel is due at Wellington (her first port) on December 1RADIO FROM SOMERSET. The Federal Company received a further wireless message yesterday from the Somerset, en route from Liverpool, stating that the vessel will now arrive at Auckland at 6 p.m. to-morrow. She is due at Wellington ou November 30. KARAMEA IN PORT. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company s motor-ship Karamea arrived at Wellington yesterday morning from Lyttelton, and berthed at the Pipitea Wharf for Homeward loading. The vessel will leave here uext Wednesday for Napier.
BENHOLM DUE TO-MORROW. The A. and A. Line chartered steamer Benhoim left Auckland at 5.20 p.m. ou Tuesday for Wellington, in continuation of her voyage from New York. The vessel is due here early to-morrow morning. PANAMA CANAL STATISTICS. Great Britain sent more ships through the Panama Canal during the fiscal year ending dune 30 than any other nation of the world, her total being 727 ships transiting the canal, according to the recent bulletin issued by the Governor of the Panama Canal zone. The United States was second with 532 vessels, Norway third with 123, and Germany fourth with 81. The records show that 1811 vessels passed through the canal during the year, representing 23 nationalities. Ships of Unite! States registry led in the aggregate number of transits with 2753, though not in number of individual ships. Although representing only 29 per cent, of the individual vessels passing through the canal, United States vessels made up 43 per cent, of the total transits. British registered ships came second in the total transits with 1842, and Germany third with 316. The total number of transits for the fiscal year was 5456 ships. The highest number of transits made by any vessel during the fiscal year was 65, made by the motorship Chiman, operated by ‘.he Isthmian Land and Fruit Company, This vessel is of Panaman registry, ami operates between Cristobal and the west eoast of the Republics of Panama and Colombia. Charles McArthur aud Sons have received cabled advice that tlie Lamb steamer Kalingo left Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, on Monday night with timber for Wellington and Wanganui. She is duo here on Sunday. The Kalingo, which is in command of Captain Turner, will be the first Lamb steamer to visit Wellington for about three years. ORIENT LINE STEAMERS. NEW GERMAN LINERS. “The Shipping World” understands that the new German liners Europa and Bremen have been designed to develop 30.000 s.h.p. on each of the four shatts. As already announced, Parsons turbines will be used. With a power of 120,000 s.h.p., in association with a length exceeding that of the Majestic, the North German Lloyd Company expects to obtain a sea speed of 27 knots. It is stated that arrangements have been made to “rush” the construction of both these ships with a view to placing them ou the North Atlantic route as soon as possible and thus gaining, ns it is hoped, the temporary advantage of possessing est sliips plying between the Lnited States and Europe.
