AMATEUR ATHLETICS

ELECTRIC LIGHT SPORTS. The official opening of the Wellington Centre’s amateur athletic and cycling season will take place at the Basin Reserve to-niglit. A very large entry of competitors lias been received, and the full programme of events promises to provide good sport in plenty. Special announcing apparatus has been installed and this should be of much benefit to spectators in following the doings of the competitors throughout the evening. Provision lias also been made for a supply of music. Among the many entrants for the gathering will be a large number of new-comers. In track and field events there should be very keen competition, while the cycling events have also drawn big fields. One of the novelties during the evening will be a tricycle contest for boys.
