STOLE FROM MOTOR-CAR
THIEF SENT TO PRISON. “This class of case is, unfortunately, too common, and it is necessary to impose a term of imprisonment.” said Mr .1. H- Salmon, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday, when dealing with the case of John Joseph O’Donnell, a tireman, aged 20, who was charged with the theft of an overcoat valued at £3 18s., and a pair of gloves, valued at Is., the property of Christopher Pinnock.
Senior-Sergeant Butler said that at 3 p.m. on Friday last Pinnoek parked his motor-car in Courtenay Place. When he returned to it he found that his overcoat and a pair of gloves were missing. Later in the day a constable saw accused with the coat, but did not know ar the time that it had been stolen. Next morning he interviewed O’Donnell, who said that ho had sold the coat for 7s. Cd. It had not been recovered. Mr. Butler added that thefts from motor-cars were fairly prevalent and were hard to detect. O’Donnell had a previous conviction for disorderly behaviour while drunk. Accused was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment and was ordered to repay the value of the overcoat and the gloves.
