As a result of carrying passengers in the outboard motor-boats, the Evans Bay Yacht and Motor Boat Club has handed over £4 2s. Cd. to the Commercial Travellers’ Christmas Cheer Fund.

A refresher course for officers and n.c.o.’s of the New Zealand Permanent Forces will be conducted at Trentluim from December 1 to 15.

The New Zealand Army Rille Association meeting for the King’s Medal and other events will be held at TrentImin from March 12 to 15 inclusive. The events include rifle matches (excluding cadets), Vickers gun, Lewis gun. and Hotchkiss gun matches, and Cadet rille matches.

The adjourned meeting of the Loyal Rose of Sharon Lodge, Manchester Unity, 1.0.0. F., was held on Thursday last, Bro. C. Boult. N.G., in the chair. Nominations for officers were as follow:—N.G., PG. Bro. Purvis; V.G., Bro. A. Scott; elective secretary. Bro. N. Kitchen; conductor, P.G. Bro. Skinlev. A notice of motion was received, changing the lodge night from Wednesday to Tuesday.

By the courtesy of the manager of the Strand Theatre, a film of St. John Ambulance workers will be shown at the next change of programme. A local section has been taken, and will be added to the main film, which is now in New Zealand. The film will show part of old historic London, St. John’s Gate, places in England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and other parts of the British Empire. A sketch of the Venerable Order of St. John will be shown, and activities of its various departments. The Auckland, the 'Wanganui, and the Wellington sections have been added, and are ready for showing. 'This will be the first time that a film of any length relating to the Order has been shown in New Zealand.

Bro. G. IL Snelling, N.G., presided over a well-attended meeting of tlie Loyal Antipodean Lodge, Manchester Unity, 1.0.0. F. Two candidates were balloted and initiated into the Lodge. Correspondence was received from district secretary re District Conference at Masterton to be held in March; from Past Grands Lodge re judge’s report, presentation of Ritual Shield, and Bro. Turner’s Merit Jewels. Also final visit of combined lodges to Loyal Rose of Sharon Lodge, Upper Hutt. Bro. Exton, V.G., was appointed to represent, the lodge at the final social of Loyal Rose of the Valley Lodge, Lower Hutt. A vote was passed to assist a brother in distress. Bro. E. Wells, P.G., reported on the doings of the U.F.S. Dispensary. Bro. G. Snelling, N.G., Reported on the arrangement re Christmas Tree. The following are the nominations for officers for the ensuing term;—Bro. Exton, N.G.; Bro. Snelling, 1.P.N.G.; Bro. Smith, V.C.; elective sec., warden, and guardian, Bros. Berry, Partridge. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Rose of the Valley Lodge, Manchester Unity 1.0.0. F., was held recently, Aet-ing-N.G. Bro. Tait presiding over a good attendance. An invitation was received from Loyal Sister Wallis Lodge, to a social and dance. Nominations of officers for the ensuing term were received as follow:—N.G., Bro. McKenzie; V.G.. Bro. T. Teasdale and Bro. Hardy; AVarden, Bros. IL Hardy, Teasdale, and Stevenson; elective sec., Sisters Seville and Reynolds; guardian, Sister Seville, Bro. 11. Teasdale, Bro. Stevenson, Bro. Savaury, Bro. Kells; conductors, Sisters Davis and Kerkus, Bros. Brente, Kells, and Stevenson.

The Wellington primary schools will close for the Christmas and New Year holidays on December 20, and re-open on Monday, February 4.

The Wellington Education Board will meet to-morrow, the meeting having been postponed from last week on account of the general election.

The Loyal Central branch G.W.0.0.F. met last Thursday, Bro. Slynes, W.G., presiding and Bro. Morgan supervising. Several letters of congratulations were received by the branch for winning team effort in the ritual competition. One member reported on sick roll. Two new members were initiated.

I’etone Pioneers, GAV.0.0.F., met last Thursday. There was a full attendance of members. Bro. Gray, N.G., presided, Bro. Newlyn, P.N.G., supervising Bro. Apperley presented the branch with a set of I.odge furnitura. and was heartily thanked by the branch. Sister Whitton was installed by the. P.N.G. as L.S.V.G.

The Star of Lower Hutt Branch Grand United Order of Oddfellows met last Wednesday, Bro. Boswell, V.G., acting-N.G., presiding. There was a fair attendance of members. Sister Weldon, Star of Newtown, and Bro. Ives, Loyal Central, were visitors, and were accorded a warm welcome. Bro. Hester gave a report of the half-yearly audit of branch books, (inc member reported on sick list and payment m as passed accordingly. Bro. Gordon was elected as librarian. One new member was proposed.

N.G. Bro. Stuart presided over a well-attended meeting of the Loyal Britannia I.odge, Manchester Unity, 1.0.0. F.. lield in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Clyde Quay, recently. Two new members were initiated. During the evening the lodge was judged for the Steffanson Ritual Shield. The secretary reported that the result and presentation of the Steffanson Ritual Shield competition would be held on November 21, at 8 p.m., at the Oddfellows’ Hall. Also, the last combined visit would be held at the Loyal Rose of Sharon Lodge, Trcntham, on November 2S. Nominations were called for the ensuing term of office.

Newtown Alpha branch G.W.0.0.F. met last Wednesday night, Bro. Barnett, N.G., presiding and Bro. Knight, attendance of members. Sister Ryde P.N.G., supervising. There was a fair and Sister Hooper, Star of Newtown, wore visitors. One new member was initiated. Bro. Hutchins presented the Bro. Topp was the recipient of a branch with a pair of gavels, and P.N.G. collar from the branch for services rendered.

The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Sister Wallis Lodge, Manchester Unity, 1.0.0. F., was held recently, Sister E. Parnell, N.G., presiding over a good attendance. An invitation was received from Loyal Rose of the A alley Lodge to attend their annual ball. A letter was received from the Past Grands’ Lodge indicating that the final combined visit for the year would be to Loyal Rose of Sharon Lodge. Nominations for officers for the ensuing term were closed. Election of officers takes place next lodge night. Lodge adjourned to receive Mrs. Wallis (widow of the late Bishop Wallis and one of the foundation members of the Loval Sister AA’allis Lodge), who was welcomed by the N.G. and presented with a beautiful bouquet. The final social and dance was then proceeded with, Sister AA’allis Orchestra supplying the music, extras being played bySisters AA’ebber and Davies, and a concerted item and extra by- Sister Bedell and the Messrs. G. Bell, Ilannell, and Hines.
