At 900yds., where the wind caught many, the scoring was not so good, but some excellent shooting was registered. Rflmn. A. Stewart tund® a great score of 47, followed closely by Rflmn. 11. T. Next Saturday the club will fire the third match of the first scries at 300 and 600 yards. PETONE v. FEATHERSTON The Petone Rifle Club visited Featherston on Saturday, and fired a teams’ match against the country team. A large party were able to make the trip, and were most hospitably entertained. The weather conditions were very good. The match was fired over the 500 and 600 yards ranges, ten shots at each range. Unfortunately, Featherston hnd several of their members away, and this, no doubt, affected the result somewhat. At 500 yards, with a fairly steady right wind blowing, both teams fired very consistently, and good average scores were recorded. At this range the teams were so evenly matched that the scores were equal—443 points each. For Petone, A. O’Donnell scored 47, E. Ballinger. W. Mclver, and F. Kershaw, 46 each, the top scorers for Featherston being H. Hodder 47, AV. Johnson. F. Hood, and P. Wilton. 46 each. At 600 yards, the wind was easier, but the light fairly difficult, and the Petone team “collared” the conditions better than Featherston, and registered brilliant scores, excelling their total at the shorter range. The team points here were Petone 447, and Featherston, 418. E. Ballinger was top scorer at the longer range, with 48. followed by H. Dickson 47, and A. O’Donnell and W. Mclver, 45 each. For Featherston. T. Taylor made 46, followed by W. Johnson, C. Nix, and Q. Donald, with 45 each. The highest individual scorers for Petone for the day were E. Ballinger. 94, A O'Donnell, 92, W. Mclver 91, and H. Dickson 90. and for Featherston. W. Johnson 91, Q. Donald 90, F, Hood and C. Nix. 87 each. A return match will be fired at Trentham later on during the season. The following were the scores:— PETONE CLUB.

About six years ago Mrs. L. Simpson, a woman gardener in the United States, sold a bunch of camellias to a woman tourist, and forthwith conceived the idea of growing and selling camellias exclusively. She found, on investigation, that the plants, as most nurserymen know, are hard to propagate successfully. However, an old negro gardener came to her assistance. He advised her to strike the cuttings in a box Oft. long and 2ft. wide, with ample depth, this giving space for 300 cuttings, and to place the box in a sheltered position. Practically every cutting rooted, and to-day Mrs. Simpson lias one of the biggest camellia farms in the United States.
