SOME OF THE CATCHES Particulars of some of the catches of trout in Lakb Taupo at the opening of the fishing season on Thursday are contained in a telegram received yesterday from the Conservator of Fish and Game by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. Sir Maui Pomare). “All the reports,” the message states, “show that the fish in Taupo are in excellent condition, being better than has been known for some years at the beginning of the season. The largest fish caught on Thursday weighed lllbs. There were several weighing 9slbs. Several anglers caught on the fly the limit prescribed by the regulations in Tongariro River and' from launches near Tokaanu. Fishermen on the launch Sunbeam landed, close to Taupo, 23 fish in the morning and 27 in the afternoon, while those fishing from the launch Tainui landed 15 fish. Fly anglers in Three and Four Mile Bays had excellent sport, one or two of the fish caught registering lOlbs.” Further messages to the Minister stated that the fishermen were delighted with the splendid prospects of the season. ■ '
