Professors G. E. Thompson, R. J. T. Bell, W. N. Benson, R. Lawson, and R. Jack, of Otago University, are attending a meeting of the Academic Board in Wellington. Dr. T. H. A. Valintine, DirectorGeneral of Health, is at present in Christchurch. Mr. P: Hobson, who lias been timber inspector at Westport for the Railway Department for some months, has arrived in Wellington to take up his new duties as passenger foreman at Lambton station. Mr. Aubrey Gaulter returned from England yesterday by the Mataroa. A number of well-known English and Continental woolbuyers arrived by the. Mataroa yesterday, among them being Mr. V. De Graeve, Mr. L. Van de Poele, Mr. L. DaVis (Andreae and Company), Mr. S. Wade (Andreae and Company), and Mr. S. Teal (Swift and Company).

He is going on to Dunedin. Mr. and Mrs. H. Nolan and Miss I. Nolan, whose destination is Auckland, arrived from England by the Mataroa yesterday. Mr. F. Helmore (Christchurch) returned from England by the Mataroa yesterday. Captain and Mrs. E. ■ Carlyon (Hawke’s Bay) arrived by the Mataroa from Southampton yesterday. Captain A. Godfree was a passenger from England by the Mataroa yesterday.
Mr. and Mrs. W. Barton (Heretaungfi) returned from England by the Mataroa yesterday. Kirkwood, the golfer, is on board the Aorangl, which has arrived at Suva, states a Press Association message. He does not play there.
Mr. John Parker, who has four times been the winner of the New Zealand cornet championship and who was solo cornetist in the Wellington Garrison Band during its six wins in contests, has accepted a position in the orchestra of a Dunedin theatre, and will again take up his residence there.
