“ACCIDENTALLY KILLED”
DEATH OF LITTLE GIRL. The Coroner (Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M.)> presided over an inquest to inquire into the death of Margaret A. J. Ralph, aged 44 years, who resided at 15 Windsor Place, and who was knocked down by a motor-car iu Willis Street on Monday evening. Alvar F. Read said that he was driving down Willis Streetat about 6.45 p.m. on Monday, and just after he had passed Ghuznee Street a motor-car (lashed past him travelling in the opposite direction. He drove on at a little more than ten or twelve miles an hour. The first he knew of anything being wrong was when he felt a bum]) towards the front of the motor-car. He immediately applied the brakes and pulled up. On going back he found that he had run over a child. He had not seen the little girl before he ran over her. A passenger in Read’s car said that it was being driven at a moderate speed and was slowed down when crossing Ghuznee Street. A motor-car had just passed them, and the child appeared to run out from behind it. The other motor-car, he considered, would have obscured the child’s view. Constable J. Orr said that from inquiries he hnd made it appeared that the child wns skipping across the road and wns wntcliing the motor-car coming up Willis Street when Read’s motor-car ran over her. The finding was to the effect that deceased was accidentally killed on October 29 through being knocked down by a motor-car, no blame being attachable to the driver.
