WITHDRAWAL EXCESS DECLINING POST AND TELEGRAPH REVENUE INCREASE FOR QUARTER Although withdrawals from the Post Office Savings Bank for the third quarter of the year were £310,020 in excess of deposits, they showed a considerable improvement on the corresponding position in 1927, when the excess amounted to £1,362,231. The deposits for the third quarter of the present year totalled £6,630,943 as against £6,635,762 for‘the same period in 1927. The withdrawals were £6,950,564 compared witli £7,997,994 in 1927. Greymouth, Thames, Timaru and Westport were the only places where an excess of deposits was recorded. The figures given below show the amount of the deposits and withdrawals at centres of interest:—
Money-orders to the value of £1,280,290 were issued, compared with £l,258.155 last year, while money-orders paid amounted to £1,190,905, against £1,191,462 last year. Post and Telegraph Revenue. Postal and telegraph revenue for the same quarter showed an increase. It totalled £822.561, as compared with £769,770 for the 1927 quarter. The postal revenue was £379,520 (1927 quarter £349.983) and the telegraph £443.011 (1927 quarter £419,756).
