LEGISLATIVE PROGRAMME CURTAILED
IN VIEW OF COMING ELECTIONS

Rugby, October 30.
The legislative programme for the last session of the present Parliament, whicli will be opened by the King in person next Tuesday, was finally considered by Cabinet yesterday. Newspapers state that in order that the session’s business may be completed in readiness for the general election in the summer, the legislative proposals have been curtailed, and only two contentious measures, apart from the Bill for the reform of the local government system, which is linked up to the Government’s rating scheme, will be presented. NEW MEMBER FOR ASHTON (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, October 30. Mr. Albert Bellamy, who won the Ashton-under-Lyne seat for Labour, is a railway engine driver, and ex-presi-dent of the National Union, of Railwaymen. He has taken a prominent part in public life. He is a Justice of the Peace and a member of several local bodies in Stockport, where lie lives. He has on two,former occasions stood unsuccessfully for Parliament.
