The Mayor (Mr. G. A. Troup) returned to Wellington on Monday evening. He left for Palmerston North yesterday, and will in all probability 'not return until Saturday.

Count Hearn, one of the notabilities who visited Australia in connection with the Eucharistic Congress, will arrive here from Sydney by the Makura on Monday next. It is his intention to visit Rotorua, before returning to America.

The resignation of Mr. J. M. Morrison, who has been lecturer in accountancy at Canterbury College for the past 20 years, was accepted with regret at Monday’s meeting of the Canterbury College Board of Governors.

Dr. E. Marsden, secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, is at. present in Palmerston North.

Professor A. C. Paterson, professor of classics at the Auckland University College, is a visitor to Wellington.

The Rev. F. G. Harvey, who was for a long time connected with St. Mary s Church at New Plymouth, and who was recently stationed in Hamilton, has been appointed to take charge of St. Augustine's, Stanley Bay, Auckland, from the beginning of next year.

Captain H. G. C. O’Neill, master of the Harbour Board’s launch Arakina, who lias retired on superannuation, was the recipient yesterday of a camera, photograph album, and fountain pen from the harbourmaster (Captain J. Dawson), pilots, and pilot staff as a mark of esteem. The presentation was made by Captain Dawson, on behalf of his staff. Captain O’Neill will leave shortly on a visit to England and Ireland. ile has been succeeded by Captain Bullock.

The death occurred at the Wellington Hospital on Monday cf Mr. Walter Harvey, n well-known officer of the Railway Department, who had been transferred from Ilawera early in the year on promotion to the statistical branch of the Railway Head Oflice in Wellington. The late Mr. Harvey, who was 42 years of age, had been for about twenty years in the service of the Department. twelve years of which were spent at Hawera, where he was also connected with the Masonic and Druids Lodges, the Bowling-Club, and other associations. At his funeral yesterday the lodges and the Chief Accountant's Branch (Railways', were well represented. The late Mr. Harvey leaves a widow and four children.

Mr. G. A. Troup, of the Christchurch Boys’ High School staff, and son of the' Mayor of Wellington, has been granted leave of absence from November 5 until the end of , the school year, to enable him to attend the World's Student Christian Federation 'Conference in India in December.
