SPEEDING MOTORCYCLIST
STUDENTS’ NOVEL PLAN (By Telegraph.—Press ABBOclation.)/ Christchurch, October 29. Chester M. Gray, of Canterbury College, had just won a scholarship. He ■was in a hurry to get home with thu good news, and extended his motorcycle to forty miles an hour along Papanui Road. In the Magistrate’s Court to-day he was charged with speed, and made the explanation about his success. ' ~ The Magistrate: Are you still at Canterbury College? The defendant: Yes. “Well they are supposed to hare some brains there, aren’t they?” asked •• the Magistrate. “We credit the students of Canterbury College with having'some brains and using them.” “I had just won a scholarship," explained the defendant. The Magistrate: We must have a piece of that scholarship, £2 and costs, with solicitor’s fee £1 Is.”
