FRUITS OF STRIKE
WATERSIDERS’ FAMILIES IN DISTRESS APPEAL MADE TO PUBLIC (Rec. October 28, 5.5 p.m.) Melbourne, October 28. Acute distress is prevalent among the families of waterside workers as a result of the strike and an appeal has been made by social organisations asking the public to shelter the children of waterslders until normal times return. • , VOLUNTEER WORKERS ATTACKED PICK-HANDLES, KNIVES, AND REVOLVERS Melbourne, October 27. Two Italian volunteer waterslders were attacked on the way from the wharves with pickhandles. The Italians drew knives and slashed their assailants, one of ..whom was- badly injured. The Italians escaped. Seven other volunteers were attacked by a mob at Port Melbourne. Four revolver shots were fired at the volunteers, three of whom were hurt. All the windows of the taxi-cab in which the volunteers were riding were smashed with stones. END OF MARSEILLES STRIKE (Australian Press Assn.—United Service.) Marseilles, October 26. It is officially notified that the striking seamen will resume work on Monday.
