ARTS AND LITERATURE ASSOCIATION
FIRST GENERAL MEETING. The first general meeting of the New Zcultuid Amateur Arts and .Literature Association was held on Tuesday. There was an attendance of 25, mostly young people. Mr. H. Sweeny was in the chan, the convener of the meeting being Mr. A. L. Reeve. A constitution was adopted, and the following temporary officers elected:—Secretary-treasurer, Mr. A. D. Reeve; recruiting secretary, Mr. 11. Brady; advertising committee, Messrs. A. AV. G. Dunningham, P. Falla, R. Hollands, R. A. Evans (Christchurch), G. AVillianis; councillors, Miss J. " s Mr. 11. Brady, Miss J. Chisholm. Mr. E. AV. Evans, Mr. P. Falla, Miss M. Huggins. Mr. 11. S. Sales, Mr. P. Thornton. The association is the outcome of a movement for the spreading and development of a general knowledge of the arts —literature, painting, sculpture, Architecture, Music, Dancing, Drama, and all their branches. One of the main themes of the association's existence is amateur journalism—that is, the publishing, of, and contributing to, amateur magazines, devoted to literature or any of the oilier arts. These magazines arc circulated tree amongst members and others.
