TRAGEDY IN VICTORIA

« attempted murder and SUICIDE (Rec. September 20, 9.15 p.m.) Melbourne, September 20. Harry Duell, 75 years of age, and his daughter, Alice. 35, were found shot today at their home near Benalla. Subsequently the body of William Shinnick was found on nearby hills. A passer-by noticed someone making signs at the Duell house, and found Duell with one hand blown off and other serious injuries, and the daughter with two shot wounds. Both were taken to hospital in a serious condition. Their depositions were taken. Searchers found Shinnick’s body with a rifle alongside. Duell informed his rescuer that Shinnick did the shooting. It is understood the latter had been paying attention to Miss Duell, and there had been frequent quarrels.
