GIFT OF AEROPLANE
TO MARK FIRST FLIGHT ACROSS TASMAN CAUSE OF CIVIL AVIATION Dominion Special Service. Auckland, September 20. In order to help forward the cause of civil aviation in New Zealand so strongly advocated by Squadron-Leader Kingsford Smith, and to mark in a substantial way the first flight across the Tasman Sea, the directors of the "New Zealand Herald” have offered to present the Auckland Aero dub with its first aeroplane—a Moth machine of tlie latest type. In proffering the gift the directors have recognised the great potential value of aviation to lhe Dominion, the need for developing an "air sense” m the general public, and the cognate need for building up and maintaining as large a body as possible of trained New Zealand pilots and air craftsmen for contingent future requirements.
