The conversation which a young woman was having in the telephone-box in Auckland was brought to an abrupt termination (says the “Herald”). With a resounding crash the box was knocked from its foundations, coming to rest, on its side al. Hu: entrance to some adjoining shops. There wits an ominous silence, broken when tlie astonished onlookers saw Hie occupant, shaken but practically unharmed, emerge on hands and knees from the bottom of the box. “.It was like a moving-picture show.” said one of Hie spectators. The incident which was the cause of the excitement was the slight collision of two motor-cars at tlie intersection. One was brought up against a telegraph-post, aud the other swung round in a half-circle and crashed into the telephone-box. The occupant of the box bad the receiver to her ear at. the time of the collision, and, perceiving herself to be in imminent danger, crouched down facing the opposite direction. The move is said Io have saved her from having her logs broken, but, as it. was, the. heels were torn from her shoes. A. scratch on Ihe right leg was Ihe only injury she received. Neither car was badly damaged.
