RADIO SOCIETY

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. A meeting of the executive of the Amateur Radio Society of Wellington was held last night. Mr. Byron Brown presided, and there were present: Messrs. W. 11. Taylor (lion, secretary), W. J. Roche, W. A. Glover, I. M. Levy, aud Dr. Robertson. It -was reported by various members of the executive that reception in Wellington of 2YA was frequently unsatisfactory, although the gramophone items invariably came in almost perfectly. The matter was referred to Dr. Robertson, as official listener fur the Broadcasting Company, to report it to the company. The relays were stated to be good on the fi-fiole, but reception of tlie studio items on some nights ■was characterised by distortion and blasting. Mr. J. Johnson, vice-president of the Neiv Zealand Association of Radio Transmitters, No. 2 district, waited upon the executive to submit a proposal on behalf of licit body to co-operate with the society in combating interference from peiver line leakages, howling valves, loose aerial connections, bad plumbing iu respect to water-pipes to which receiving sets tire “earthed,” and amateur transmission. Mr. Jolinson stilted that tlie Radio Transmitters had agreed to volunteer to investigate all complaints regarding these forms of interference. A list of transmitters would be submitted to the society, ivliich could advise members and others Hint the transmitters ivould respond to any requests for advice in diagnosing the trouble experienced from interference. Mr. Johnston ivas assured that the proposal would receive every consideration from the executive of tlie society, and his association would later be notified of the decision. lie was requested to convey tlie thanks of tlie executive to his association for their generous offer. • A vote of appreciation of tlie excellent broadcasting and relaying accomplished by tlie Broadcasting Company in connection ■with the trans-Tasman flight anti the visit of Squadron-Leader Kingsford Smith and liis corttpaulous was carried unanimously.
