General Hertzog, the South African Prime Jlinister, spoke at Hoopstad in condemnation of tlie propaganda being spread in the Orange Free State to secure a declaration of definite republicanism for Hie Nationalist Party. Sueli a declaration, lie said, would lead to Hie immediate destruction of Hie Nationalist Party. He warned the clergy against Hie danger of preaching republicanism, which lie declared was quite unnecessary, ;is South Africa already bad sovereign national freedom. He was satisfied the majority of Hie people did not want a republic.
