The fact that according to deer stalkers, the number of hinds in the society’s district had been depleted was brought before the monthly meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Acclimatisation Society the other night, by the chairman, Mr. J. 11. Edmundson, who stated that he considered some restriction should be placed on the shooting of hinds (says the “Daily Telegraph”'. One member remarked, however, that this was. not his experience as he had on occasion seen seven or eight hinds to one stage. He also thought that the restrictions should not be too hard, as the society was on rather thin ice, there being a danger that if the deer got out of band more difficulty would be experienced with the land-owners. It was then stated by the chairman that a number of deer stalkers intended writing to the society’s next meeting putting forward their views, and it was therefore decided to hold over the matter until that time.
