SITTING MEMBER’S RETIREMENT By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, September 7. The definite retirement on doctor’s advice of Mr. J. Horn, member for Otago Central, is announced. This leaves three candidates —Mr. J. Ritchie is the official Reform nominee, Mr. John Bennett will probably stand as Independent Reform, and Mr. W. A. Bodkin has been approached to contest the seat as a Liberal. OPPONENT FOR MINISTER By Telegraph.—Press Association. Eltliani, September 7. At a round-table conference at Rahot.u last night, when Mr. W. C. Green, Liberal candidate for Egmont, and Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, Independent candidate for the same seat, were present, Mr. Green voluntarily retired from the contest in favour of Mr. Wilkinson. This will mean a straight-out contest between the sitting member, the Hon. O. J. Hawken, and Mr. Wilkinson. CONTEST IN GREY LYNN Dominion Speciai, Service. Auckland, September 7. The selection of Mr. J. S. Fletcher to contest the Grey Lynn seat in the United Party’s interest is announced. Mr. Fletcher was formerly a director of the Fletcher Construction Co., Ltd., but has now retired. Other candidates for Grey Lynn are Mr. F. N. Bartrum (Labour), and Mr. Basil E. Howse (Liberal). The United Party candidates for the Auckland seats will leave on Wednesday evening for Wellington, where an organiser's conference will be held.
