Meteorological Office, Wellington, September 7, 4 p.m. A cyclone is now centred south-east ol Christchurch, and is still very intense. Strong west to south-west winds to gales, and rough to heavy seas generally over New Zealand area, moderating gradually tomorrow; strong south-westerly winds to gales and high seas in the eastern Tasman Sea. Weather changeable, squally, and unsettled, with showers in most districts and heavy in places. Cold temperatures.
