If there should be; a rate "war” between the existing ’banks and the new bank, the weakest —and the weakest would be the newest—would be unlikely to survive the effects of the competition and would go out of existence. That is clearly what was meant by the chairman of the associated banks in his evidence. There is, however, no need to anticipate the occurrence of any development of this nature. It is not to be supposed that the directors of the now bank would pursue a course that would imperil its existence. — "Otago Daily Times.”
