The number of names on the petition which is being prepared for presentation to the Christchurch City Council for the establishment of a crematorium is steadily growing, and at a meeting held in the Council Chambers progress reports were handed in from various members of the committee, accounting for upwards of 16(10 signatures (says the “Lyttelton Times”). Canvassers reported that in the majority of cases the public signed the petition willingly, and the -general feeling seemed strongly in favour of the establishment of a crematorium.
