SENSATIONAL RIDING BY AUSTRALIAN RECORD BROKEN IN SPITE OF DELAYS (Australian Press Association.) Paris, September 3. The Australian champion cyclist, H. Opperman, registered a sensational performance in winning the 80l d’Or cycle racing trophy. He covered 5904 miles of track in twenty-four hours, „eight miles more than the record for the nice. Opperman was paced by triplet cycles. Continuing, he created a world's record for 1000 kilometres (approximately 022 miles), covering the journey in 25hr. 19min. 36 4-ssec. He commenced at 11 o’clock on Saturday night, but after six hours he was eleven laps behind owing to breaking a chain and having punctures. Upon resinning, Opperman displayed phenomenal ability, and riding furiously, lie completely demoralised the field and assumed the lead. Opperman then went after the record and succeeded in breaking that established by Oscar Egg over twenty-five years ago by 23 kilometres 135 metres (approximately 14 miles 634 yards). The field comprised first-class Continental riders) Critics acclaim Opperman as the greatest all-round cyclist in the world.
