to take up coaching in Canterbury after the visit of the English tennis team in October. In that case lie will not defend his singles title, which he has held fot»a record number of years, beating the record of 11. A. Parker. Mr. Ollivier’s decision will be hailed with great satisfaction by all who ■would like to take
advantage of his , , great fund of tennis knowledge while he is at the height of his career. It is possible that Mr. Ollivier will be coach to the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association, and possibly-the clubs will be circularised in connection with the matter. PATTERSON AND HAWKES LOSE DOUBLES FINAL HAWKES AND MISS WILLS WIN MIXED DOUBLES (Australian Press Assn.—United Service) New York, September 1. At Brookline, in the final of the American national doubles championship, G. M. Lott and John Hennessey (U.S.A.) defeated Gerald Patterson and J. B. Hawkes (Australia), 6—2, G —l, Miss Helen Wills and J. B. Hawkes won the national mixed doubles championship, defeating Miss Cross and Moon (Australia), 6 —l, o—3.
