CHANNEL SWIM

HELMY’S FEAT OF ENDURANCE (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, September 2. Helmy, the Egyptian swimmer, has succeeded after a Dumber of attempts in swimming the English Channel. Leaving Cape Grisnez in France on Friday afternoon, he reached Folkestone after being in the water 23 hours 40 minutes. The time taken is one of the longest in the sixteen successful Channel swims that have been made, but Helmy’s achievement is considered a remarkable feat of endurance, especially considering the strength of the currents.
