POLICE AND MAINTENANCE CASES Police and maintenance cases in tlie Magistrate’s Court yesterday were heard before Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M. Margaret Kelso, aged 48, a second.offcnder for drunkenness, who had been in the lock-up since 9.35 p.m. on Saturday, was convicted and discharged. On the application of Mr. W. E. Leicester, who said that he desired to look further into lhe matter, John William Rogers, a taxi-driver, aged 29, was remanded until this morning on a charge of being found in charge of a motor-car while iu a state of intoxication. Bail was allowed. Jack Dingle, aged 21, was charged with stealing an overcoat and a pair of spectacles in a case, valued at £-1 155., the property of lan J. Hart. Mr. W. E. Leicester, who appealed for Dingle, said that his client intended to plead not guilty, and asked for a remand until Wednesday, so that evidence might be called. The application was allowed. MAINTENANCE CASES A sentence of two months’ imprisonment was imposed on Edward Savile Lyall Esdaile, who was charged with being £lO in arrears in respect to an order for the maintenance of his wife. He will be released on payment of the arrears and of a fine of £5. Arthur Bert Peterson, who was charged with being £8 Is. in arrears in regard to tlie maintenance of his wife, and £7 10s. behind in respect of his child, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment on each charge, the warrants to be suspended so long as he pays £1 Is. a week off each order. Frederick Ernest Boyce was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment for being £lO in arrears for the support of his wife. The warrant is to be suspended so long as he pays Us. a week. For being £2O in arrears in respect, to the maintenance of his divorced wife, Stanley Walter Bean Wilson was sentenced'to two months’ imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended so long as he pays £1 Is. a week. He was also sentenced to one month’s imprisonment for being in arrears to the extent of £lO for the maintenance of' his child. The warrant will be suspended so long as the sum of Ils. a week is paid.
