TENDERS FOR ROAD PAVING

Sir —I wauld like to draw attention’to two statements mentioned in your article of August 31 regarding the City Council si plant and metal, as it may affect the tenders and the prices they put in, were it to go without correction. It is stated in the article that the corporation has the only machine capable of turning out sand, metal, and filler dust, and also that the Ngahauranga Gorge has the best supply of metal in the district. The New Walwetu Quarles, Ltd., has an up-to-date plant, probably better equipped than the City Council’s, and the class of metal is also quite on a par, if not m .excess of, that of the Ngahauranga Gorge. I am, L ARCUS, Secretary. New Waiwetu Quarries, Ltd. Wellington, September 1.
