The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Antipodean Lodge, Manchester Unity 1.0.0. F., was held on Tuesday evening, when Bro. G. H. Snelling, N.G., presided. One candidate was initiated into the Lodge and Order, while three proposals for membership were received. A letter of recommendation from Loyal Timaru Lodge was received on behalf of Bro. W. E. J. Davie, to whom a welcome with Lodge Honours was extended. Bro. R. Cook, D.G.M., was in attendance, and having expressed a wish to take an active interest in the work of the Antipodean Lodge he was unanimously elected an honorary member. The question of Christmas tree and social club room was suggested, and notices of motion for Quarter Night were given by Bros. E. Wells, P.G., and E. W. Guise, P.G. Bro. A. Guise, F.S., referred to a loss of the Lodge by the death of the late Bro. L. Dixon, one of the oldest members, having joined in 1869, and also the death of Bro. F. G. Thirkell, another old member for over 40 years. It was resolved that letters of sympathy be forwarded to relatives and as a mark of respect, the members stood in silence. The social committee were instructed to arrange for receiving a visit from combined Manchester Unity Lodges. An Indian spider’s-web only six inches in width was found to contain over 41,500 meshes. In the Wieliczka salt mines at Cracow’ there are altars, shrines and statues made of salt. The first perambulator was built in 1780 for a daughter of the fifth Duke of Devonshire.
