BROADCASTING
Sir, —Has your correspondent, “Good English” ever read the Bible and come across that interesting passage, “He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone”? In castigating the announcers for their allegedly poor English, he is himself quilty of very loose writing. His sentence “The result of this overstressing is a blurred reception that is very unpleasant to listen to” does not pass muster as good English, as any lad on the street will toll him. If this gentleman speaks no better than he writes, he would probably make a very much worse showing before the microphone than those of whom he complains. At the same time, there is something in what he says, and the best standard is certainly desirable in broadcasting. But who js to fix the standard. Even the British Broadcasting Corporation nnd its committee of experts, is not infallible.—l am. etc., . * MEDIUM ENGLISH. Wellington, August 11.
