“DEFINITE BENEFIT TO STATE”
FREEHOLDING RURAL ’ LANDS “I hope to remain in this House long enough to put through legislation that will give the freehold to .all rural lands,” said the Minister of -Lands (Hon. A. D. McLeod) in the House of Representatives last night. •The Minister explained that this desire was not simply because the freeholding would be of benefit to the individual, but because it would benefit the State. (Hear, hear.) “It would be a definite benefit to the State,” said the Minister. “I say that after -due consideration and a very close knowledge of the land.” A SLIGHT ERROR ' Believing they had discovered in the Hanmer Crown Leases Bill, read a second time in ,the House of Representatives last'night, a principle which conformed to his party's way of thinking, n Labour member complimented the Minister of Lands (Hon. A. D. McLeod) on its introduction. . . j Subsequent. Reform speakers pointed out that the same principle had been incoronrated in legislation dating bac_ to 1892!
