ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL
« TO-DAY'S ATTRACTIONS. Soccer followers will have one of the most important championship matches of the year to entertain them at the Basin Reserve this afternoon, when-Y.M.C.A, (leaders for the championship) meet Hospital. The last meeting of these teams resulted in a win for Y.M.C.A. Hospital have always been classed as a team who displav good football, and are out to turn the tables. Y.M.C.A.. in the last few weeks, have shown decided improvement in team work, so followers of the game can look forward to a stirring game. On No. 2 ground Marist are down to meet Thistle, who are running Y.MjC.A. close for championship honours. The latter team has been displaying good football, and as the result of these matches have an important bearing on the championship the interest is at high pitch. Two good curtain-raisers will be played, between the Hutt Valley League and sixth division representatives, while Marist meets Wadestown in the fourth division. On Saturday week Wellington will try conclusions with Canterbury for the English Football Association’s Cup. Last vear the latter defeated Wellington by four goals to three. The local eleven, which is one of the strongest fielded for years, are right' out to reverse positions. CHATHAM CUP. The Pctone team will leave by bus at 7 a m for Palmerston North, and will meet Hastings United- this afternoon in the Chatham Cup fixture. The winners will have to travel to Auckland to meet the northern representatives to decide who will be the North Island finalists. An intimation has been received that the Hawkes Bav team will travel to Manawatu. Should either team fail to travel the match v ill go by default.
