ADMISSION TO ZOO
QUESTION OF SUNDAY CHARGE SHOULD POLL BE TAKEN ? ' ■ i Tb& Question o£ charging the public for admission to the Zoo at Newtown Park’on Sundays was again raised at the City Council meeting last night, whent a recommendation of the Reserves Committee was received that authority be granted for a. poll to be taken at the next municipal elections on tife question of charging admission to the Zoological Gardens on Sundays. Tire chairman of the committee, Councillor B. G. EL Burn, said that it was difficult to run the gardens on the revenue obtained at . present. Councillor G. Mitchell said he approved of the poll, as it would test the feeling of the people on Sunday charging for -tdniissi t to the Zoo. If Sunday charging wore sanctioned by the ratepayers, then the money so obtained should be earmarked for improving’the conditions for animals at the Zoo and to make the place more attractive for the people that went theie. Councillor M.. Luckie said he felt that if the matter were reasonably put to the ratepayers- they should have a reasonable chance of obtaining approval of the proposal. Councillor J. Burns sail if the poll were carried it would still be necessary to get legislation to put it in order. The recommendation was carried. Sunday.
