& — PURDY V. CARROLL. The box plan for the Purdy-Carroll contest. to be held on Thursday next, will open this morning, and in view of the interest being taken in the principal contest there is sure to be a keen demand for seats.-'' From reports received of his contests in Australia, Purdy has departed from his previous style in confining his activties to clever defensive work, and now combines this with more forcible attacking taeties. and followers of the sport will no doubt look forward to again seeing him, in action, and noting the difference in his stylo. There will be the usual four preliminaries. and the programme promises to provide an excellent night's entertainment. Immediately after the contest Carroll will proceed to Christchurch, where he is due to meet Casey in a return match on the night of the Grand National, and much interest is being taken in the match in the southern city. Purdy is very anxious to try conclusions again with Fairhall, and there is a prospect of the local association getting Fairhall to come tq x Wellington.
