LEGISLATION SOUGHT
WATCHING ENGLISH MEASURE
Will legislation bo introduced this session fixing the date of Easter? Replying in the Horme of Representatives yesterday tc a question on the above lines, asked by Sir George Hunter (Waipawa), the acting Minister of Internal Affairs (Hou. Sir Maui Pomare) said that the progress of the Bill introduced into the Imperial Parliament providing for a fixed dav for Easter was being officially noted. The question of introducing legislation would be considered if the Bill at present before the Imperial Parliament became law. Regret was expressed by Sir George Hunter that a definite assurance had not been given that the legislation would be introduced. The public would greatly appreciate such a measure, as it would remove the confusion which at present existed. He hoped a Bill would appear before the session ended. . ... Mr. P. Fraser (M clliugtonCentral) . What do the religious bodies say about it 9 Sir George Hunter: They would be consulted. I understand they have no objection to a Bill being introduced, provided they are consulted on the question of fixing the date.
