That the farmers of Otago intend to /pull themselves of the opportunity <>£ obtaining finance under the provisions of the Rural Intermediate Credit Act, 1927, is indicated by the fact that at a recent meeting of the Milton branch of the Farmers’ Union a resolution was carried that a co-operative association should be formed in that district (states Hie "Otago Daily Times”). The meeting was addressed by Mr. G. H. Elliffe, chariuuin of the Otago District Board, constituted under the Act, and it was mentioned that, whilst a number of co-operative associations bad already been formed in the North Island, Milton would be the first to form an association in the South Island. It is understood that there is a possibility of an association being formed in the Tapanui district. The export of stud sheep to Australia is increasing in favour (remarks the “Southland Times”). The Karetu, on her recent trip, took as many as 600 for Australian breeders desirous of raising the standard of their sheep, and a further 300 is being taken by the Waikouaiti. Of this number 130 are from Mr. William Kennedy’s stock at Otautau, and the remainder comes from the same district from the farms of Messrs McFarlane and Allison. The exact number of the sheep being shipped is 280.
