- The Hon. L. M. tsitt, M.L.C.. arrived in Wellington from the South on Saturday morning. Commander Nelson Clover, 11. N., arrived from London by the Rotorua on Saturday morning, and lias gone on to Auckland to take command of ILM.S. Philomel, relieving Commander Bradley, who, after nearly three years' service in New Zealand, is ijboiit to return to England. Major T. M. Wilkes, Director of Air Services Jn New Zealand, has returned ,to Wellington from the South. Dr, J. B. MeMikeu, senior house Burgeon at. the Waikato Hospital, has resigned his appointment. Mr. W. T. McCallum has returned to Wellington from the South. Mr. John Phillips, of Colgate apd Company, will be leaving New Zealand on July 17 by the Aopangi on a business mission to Australia. After forty-five years’ service with the education Department, Mr. G. Raymond/Inspector of Schools in the Canterbury District, is.retiring on super, anpuatiou. Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Dawes, of London, arrived from Southampton by the Rotopua on Saturday morning. Miss T. N. West Watson arrived from England by the Rotorua on Saturday morning to take up an appointment as sister tutor at 'Wellington Hospital. She was met by her brother, Dr. West Watson, Bithop of Christchurch, and went South with him in th? Rotorua to spend a few days at Bishops'court, Christchurch. . Signor Rudolfo Gonsalez, who is associated with the business side of the Gonsalez Grapd Opera Company, arrived from the south yesterday morning, and will leave for San Francisco by the Madura to-morrow en route for Itgly. An interview with him appears Jn another part of the paper. The popularity in which Sergeant J. M. McHolm and Mrs. McHolm are held br the Lyttelton people was demonstrated by a public reception given in their honour in the Club Hall on I'riday night. The large gathering included representatives from all the sports and public bodies in the port, the various lodge?, the shipping, churches, schools, business establishments, and the Seamen's Institute. The Mayor (Mr. F. E. Sutton) presided. Sergeant McHolm, who is the Dominion hammer throwing champion, has been transferred to Lower Hutt. The Mayor made a presentation to Mps. McHolm on behalf Of the citizens of Lyttelton of a sideboard, together with a dinner set, cake stand, and smoker's outfit. Followers of"amateur athletics also gave a farewell to Sergeant McHolm.-—Special fservice.

One of the oldest medical practitioners in Auckland, Dr. J. Moir, died recently at the age of 76 years. He had resided in the city for nearly forty years. He was born in Clackmannanshire, Scotland, in 1852, educated at Glasgow University, and was appointed house surgeon to the Royal fnflrm-. ary, and later district physician to the Glasgow-Maternity Hospital. From 1884 he practised at Tauranga, and after four years there practised in' Auckland. In 1809 he was SurgeonCaptain of the' old Newtown Rifles. He took a prominent part in Freemasonry, and up to the time of his death was medical officer for a number of l lodges and the City Council. His children are Dr. P. Moir and Mr. J. A. Moir, of Auckland; Mrs. H. O. Jones and Mrs. C. Whitley, of Auckland;' and Mrs, P. Rose, of Wellington.
