FAST FLYING
CHRISTCHURCH TO TIMARU BY AIR Dominion Special Service. Christchurch. July 14Something of a. New Zealand record for fast travelling was put up yesterday by Captain J. L. Findlay, in the Gloster Grebe aeroplane, the newest machine at Wigram aerodrome. He flew to Timaru, stunted over the beach, and arrived back one hour and thirty minutes after he’ had left. Captain Findlay left Wigram at 2.30 p.m., about a quarter of an hour after the two Bristol fighters, which were flown by Captains M. Buckley and N. Barlow, and all three machines arrived at Timaru at about five minutes past three. Timaru people were treated to an exhibition of stunting for a quarter of an hour, after which the planes set out back for Sockburn. The Grebe arrived back at 3.50, while the Bristol fighters came in about 20 minutes later. Although (bis is probably the fastest trip that lias ever been made in New Zealand, the Grebe was flown considerably below its maximum Speed.
