POSSIBLE CLUE TO IDENTITY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, June 20. In connection with the statement from Wellington regarding the ownership of a gold medal found buried with an unknown New Zealand soldier near Flers, FranVe. whose initials it was suggested might be 8.5. C., as inscribed ou the medal, the following further information was forwarded to the Acting-Minis-ter of Internal Affairs to-day by Mr. J. S. Neville, town clerk of Christchurch: — "With reference to the parttgrapl) relating to Sergeant Cox, I have to inform yon that his brother. Mr. Noel lox. of 55 Pnriri Street, Rieearton, has shown me to-day the certificate of service of Sergeant. Bernard S. K. Cox. lit the newspaper report you will notice that it is stated that Sergeant Cox was killed in Belgium, ami was buried there. His certificate stales that the date of death was C-tober -4, 1917. and that he died in France. There is also a mistake in his regimental number, the correct number being 11591. "Mr. W. Cox states that his brother was killed at I’asschendaelc. but no trace of his gra-e lias been found. Mr. Cox's wife and bis mother-in-law were in France in 1924. ami made very exhaustive inquiries with a view to locat_ng the grave of Sergeant Bernard S. K. Cox, but without result. Sergeant Cox was in the habit, of wearing a gold ring on his little finger, and it bad engraved on it the family crest —a stag.”
